Level 1 (3 Modules, 54 hours in Total)

You will able to
  • Use the Mandarin phonetic system and its four tones.
  • Produce simple sentences, to formulate and respond to simple questions.
  • Have a basic knowledge of grammatical structures, including different tenses and word order.
  • Have enough vocabulary to ‘survive’ in predictable situations.

Level 2 (3 Modules, 54 hours in Total)

 You will able to
  • Use words related to personal experience and everyday topics in familiar and predictable situations.
  • Use some basic grammar conventions.
  • Understand and respond to increasingly complex words and phrases in questions, requests, short conversations, and short instructions in predictable situations.
  • Use your knowledge of various basic cultural conventions to be comfortable with oral communication.
  • Recognize 800 Chinese simplified characters, and learn how to write Chinese characters and sequences of different strokes.

 Level 3 (3 Modules, 54 hours in Total)

 You will able to
• Demonstrate control of basic grammar conventions while beginning to use some complex grammar.
• Understand and respond to sentence - length communication in face-to-face conversations, instructions and short narratives related to familiar topics or tasks.
• Use your knowledge of some complex cultural conventions to better understand oral communication.
• Learn 500 more Chinese simplified characters. Use expanded vocabulary in familiar and some unfamiliar situations.

Level 4 (3 Modules, 54 hours in Total)

You will able to
• Use appropriate vocabulary in familiar and unfamiliar situations with proper level of formality.
 • Demonstrate control of some complex grammar conventions.
• Understand and respond to complex sentences, questions, multi-step instructions in conversations and in narratives related to familiar tasks and situations.
• Read the top 1,500 most frequently used Chinese characters and hundreds of practical sentence patterns, and understand about 70% of the content (on average) in general Chinese publications.

Level 5 (3 Modules, 54 hours in Total)

 You will able to
• Use complex vocabulary and phrases (including idioms) in familiar and unfamiliar situations.
• Demonstrate consistent control of most grammar conventions and complex sentences.
 • Understand and respond to extended explanations and narratives, detailed instructions, and complex conversations in varied contexts.
• Listen and comprehend radio news, thereby enhancing your appreciation of Chinese culture and history.
• Read the top 2,000 most frequently used Chinese characters and understands about 80% of the content (on average) in general Chinese publications.
