Building Resilience: Strategies for Overcoming Plateaus in Chinese language learning

Learning Chinese is no easy task! This is especially true overseas, where the lack of a Chinese language Speaking environment makes mastering pronunciation incredibly difficult. You can practice a phrase fifty times, even a hundred, and still not get it right. When you realize it might take two hundred repetitions, it’s easy to feel discouraged and wonder, “Can I really keep this up?”

It often starts with excitement, but that initial enthusiasm can fade once you discover the Mandarin Chinese language pronunciation is much harder than you imagined. The danger is stopping right there—after you’ve already invested so much time and effort. Quitting would mean all that hard work was for nothing.

That’s why our students find different ways to stay motivated. They turn the tedious drill of pronunciation practice into a fun, game-like challenge. Finding clever ways to make the journey enjoyable is a strategy that helps in overcoming any difficult endeavor.
